Statement of Puropose

For this remediation, I am designing a webpage that can inform and persuade the designers and builders of the African American History Museum in Washington D.C. I am trying to convince these people of the importance of the Negro Spiritual to African American History. I want them to consider building a wing of other building that is dedicated to the Negro Spiritual. I wanted my site to be short and easy to understand.

When choosing my opening image on the site, I made it black and white as a quick and simple visual to portray “old”. This would show the builders that the Negro Spiritual is something that has been around for a while. I also provided images of the current design of the museum and also my design of the Negro Spiritual Wing. By providing a design, it solidifies the idea; it changes from something that is conceptual to something you can see and grasp. The overall design is very block like and structured, featuring many lines and shapes. I thought that this design would appeal to architects because it is very structured and solid like some of the blueprints that they would draw out. Adding videos of songs lets the audience “feel the spirit” which is said to be the only way to fully understand the culture surrounding the Spirituals. I added a facebook comment feed so that visitors to the site will be able to give their feedback on the proposed idea, and hopefully it will be good feedback. This way the developers can how important this form of music is to the general public.
